Farmington Dew Days - June 2013

It was a great turnout this year! And the sun was shining. Last year, the sky opened up, just as the gun went off, to torrential rain for approximately 28 minutes…or until I was just a half mile from finishing the race. I had never run in such heavy rain before. All I can say is that I was so grateful it wasn’t cold that day.

Last year I ran it in 30:15. This year, I shaved 2 minutes off that time. I could blame that rain last year or it could be because I’ve miraculously become a better runner. Regardless, it was a good run and a good shake down for next Saturday.

And there were kids running…lots of kids. By kids, I mean teens, twenty and thirty year-olds…God love ’em. I wish I had started earlier. But I’m just grateful I can run with them at all!

I had to take all my own photos this time because my chauffeur, photographer, videographer, head cheerleader, and husband could not attend, hence the cheesy grin in the photos. But pre-run, I was feeling fine and grateful for the sun!

I was completely decked out in neon from head to toe. An older gent asked me if I ran in the dark. Because if I did, I’d be seen. Yep…that’s me. Neon is my color. I found it even funnier when a younger guy came up to me after the run and asked me the same exact question. “Well, if you did, I’d be able to see you!”

I started out this run way to fast…again. Just the excitement, I think. I tried to settle into the pace I had found early on…about 6:45…then I decided it was too fast to finish so I toned it down around mile 2. I think that was a good call because by the time I was into mile 3, I had enough juice to pour it on at the end. I would have loved to have done it in 28 flat…but I’m VERY excited about the 28:13. Really, that was quite a feat! For a four mile run, it means I had a 7:04 pace!

I’m sorry I didn’t carry my water with me because I did not want to stop for any. It got hot, and I was profusely sweaty. And just a tad bit nauseous as I crossed. But it was such a great crowd…and I heard “Gosh, she is fast!” as I came through the chute. That made me smile!

And I couldn’t help but notice ALL the fun sneakers! There are such bright colors out there today. They really stood out among all the racers!

And, the coup de gras today, this guy…who appeared on the tree next to where I was parked. I headed back to my car to clean up and pick up my Mophie after the race and before the awards ceremony. I just had to get a photo of him, because you never see these guys!

My only disappointment with this run? No bagel. There were plenty there…but none for me. 🙁 I just had a banana and water. But to tell you the truth, it was all I needed. Just the thought of a gluten gut bomb was enough to be thankful that I am now Gluten Free…bye bye bagels.

Oh, and did I mention? Probably the best, brightest race shirt ever! Good deal!
