Breakfast of Champions

So, I ran today. Not only did I run, but I ran pretty far. Not real far, but further than I planned to run. In fact, I didn’t plan to run at all. Funny how that happens.

We are actually not home. OMG…could that be true? We have not not been home for quite a long while. When the opportunity arose for us to get out of town, I instinctively grabbed it.

I thought, perhaps, I’d take a break from life in general. And that means running. But, I didn’t sleep well last night. And sometimes when that happens, there is a deeper reason as to why I don’t sleep…not just what I ate or drank, or didn’t eat or drink. Sometimes it is the mental thing. The thing that says “Why are you taking a break again?”

Sometimes the best breaks are no breaks at all. And this morning, at 6:45 am, when I could have slept in, and didn’t…or couldn’t…I realized I didn’t need a break. Rather, I needed to run.

With everyone still fast asleep, and the sun low on the horizon, and the temperature hovering at 55°, the time couldn’t be more right.

So, I got dressed and went. I didn’t have my running sneakers, but I did have my new Saucony neon walking sneakers, and those would have to do. Yeah, they feel a little “sloshy” as compared to my Brooks, but they fit…and they work.

Empty, wide roads with broad shoulders, cool temperatures, slight breeze. 7 am. Yes…perfect.

7 miles easy. 800+ calories burned. Mindset improved. Life good.

Photos of the route.
