The Meanest Mom and #MustHaveSnacks

NatureBox Snacks are PopSugar's Must Have Snacks

I’m the meanest mom in the whole world. I say “no” a lot. And you know what? I’m damn proud of it.

Raising children is by far the most challenging and rewarding thing one will ever do, should one decide to do it. And it becomes increasingly difficult if you are attempting to do it while incorporating your new found love of health and fitness.

It’s not easy. And the only thing I regret…is not starting sooner.

But, of course, as parents, our frustration mounts as our children get louder, or clamp their mouths shut at the sight of a few vegetables. So in turn, we end up grabbing what they scream for or what we know they’ll eat just to prevent the ensuing migraine that is bound to emerge.

As I have grown older along with my children, I realize that now is the time to engrain in their brains that it is better to follow a healthy lifestyle then to end up with the consequences of the opposite. Sometimes they are completely engaged, and others, they just want that darn bag of Doritos and they’ll do anything to get it…even offer to pay for it with their own money.

My husband isn’t always a great help (he doesn’t have as much patience as I do at the checkout counter). Nor are other members of the extended family. Since they don’t see the kids that often, they’ll inevitably give them what they beg for as a “gift”. It makes me crazy.

This is why I’m so grateful for NatureBox. Finally, snacks that I’m not ashamed to feed my children. There is such a great variety of savory, sweet, and slightly salty snacks. You can even personalize what you receive or leave it up to them to surprise you. I especially love the fact that every ingredient in each fresh packed, ziplocked bag is one that I know and can pronounce. And that the contents taste better than anything that comes in a preservative filled bag at the local Wal-mart. And I like that we get fresh snacks every few months. And that after school or on a weekend night, the kids ask…

“Mom, can we share something from the NatureBox?”

Absolutely, you can.

((sigh)) NatureBox makes it easy to be a mom.

Maybe I’m not so mean, after all!

  1. It is really hard to say no to them when they want unhealthy snacks and to teach them to have them in moderation. They will thank us later!!

  2. I’m always hungry, the kids are always hungry and looking for a variety of healthy snacks, so I just ordered my first box! Thanks 🙂

  3. In the long run, they will realize you are only looking out for them! Good for you, your such a good mom! Its okay to say no sometimes. I am usually more prone to say yes at family holidays though 😉 but remind them about moderation, or my oldest will pile her plate full of deserts!

    So true!

When our kids were little we definitely left carts of groceries behind when they got out of control. Now that they are teens (16 and 17) it is more about teaching to avoid ‘mindless snacking’. I don’t like labeling foods ‘good and bad’ … but instead teach them of all food as part of a fueling process – and some are better than others as fuel. We have had them eating loads of fruits and veggies and balanced meals since they were little … but similar to how each activity doesn’t need to be ‘educational’, nor should every snack need to be nutritious – it is all about balance.

My almost 12 year old son nick-named me the “Queen of No” a long time ago.

And I am proud to carry that title.
