A Winner…and 30 Years Later

I’m a bit behind the times on announcing the winner to the Udo’s Oil Giveaway on the blog a few weeks back. If you haven’t heard yet, or don’t follow me on Facebook, my 30th High School Reunion is this weekend and I’ll be flying back home to New York to see a few of those that I graduated with back in 1984. Gosh, at times it seems like a lifetime ago, but seeing them all on Facebook can make it feel like yesterday. It has been fun to reconnect virtually, but I’m looking forward to the face to face interactions with some of my bestest from back in the day.

The great thing about Facebook, though, is having that ability to “reconnect” after all this time. We won’t have to rip out the wallet photos anymore, because we all have access to each others lives already. Yeah, it takes a little bit of the fun out of it, but at the same time, puts a little fun into it.

I have to admit, that within the last few months, there was one snarky remark made about a #FlexFriday photo that I had posted of myself. It was from a fellow classmate from back in the day. He said,

“Wow, where was that body in high school?”

Really? Was it, and is it still, all about how we look? I always thought it was all about who we are and how important it is to just be. And would it have mattered if I did have that body in high school?

Somehow, I think not. Even if I looked as good then as I do now, I’d still just have been Theresa…not the most popular, not the most beautiful, not the smartest, not the athlete, not the hot girl to date…just me.

So, is it just that those standards never go away? Even as we age, do we still look at each other in that respect?

“Boy, she looks HOT now…too bad she didn’t look hot then. Maybe things would be different.”

It’s slightly disheartening. And kind of sad, too. I like to think that whatever happens to all of us, happens for a reason. Not because we were too shallow to look beneath the layers of those who we surrounded ourselves with in our primary years.

I’m one of the few who moved away…far away, so I didn’t stay in touch with many, except a select few. They were the few whose layers I had looked beneath. I’m sure the others did that as well. And I’m a bit envious of those who are still within a stones throw of each other. But my life today isn’t the life I lived 30 years ago. I have certainly grown, and evolved, and yeah…I’ve gotten into the best shape of my life. I’m damn proud of that.

This will be fun. I’m excited to reconnect. And I’m always happy and grateful for the opportunity to go home.

A Winner!

All that being said, the winner in the Udo’s Oil giveaway is Nancy McIntyre! Congratulations Nancy!

I’ve got a few other giveaways going on at the moment so be sure to get in on all of them! There is the Fittie Giveaway and the $45 gift card to Swanson Vitamins! I encourage you to enter. You can’t win it if your not in it!

Have you ever attended any of your High School Reunions? Which ones, and how did it go? Was it a complete shock or was everyone the same?
