It's All In The Bag – RecoveryBITS #Giveaway

I’ve talked a lot in past posts about EnergyBits and how much I stand by them. They have become a part of my daily ritual and routine. I couldn’t imagine running without them. But I’m also a huge fan of RecoveryBits as well. And for me, they prove to be just as important as my EnergyBits.

What is the difference? They are both 100% algae but while EnergyBits are Spirulina algae, RecoveryBits are Chlorella algae. (Even though these substances are considered dietary supplements, it is always recommended to consult with a physician before taking them, especially if taking medication.) Here are the differences that you should know:

Both algae are freshwater algae.

  • Spirulina is a blue-green algae that is thousands of year older than chlorella.
  • Spirulina contains more protein than chlorella. On average spirulina contains 12 times more protein than beef.
  • Spirulina is a better source of GLA (gamma-linoleic acid), a ‘good’ fat that is essential for healthy brain and heart function.
  • Spirulina contains higher concentrations of phycocyanin, a phytochemical that can help prevent cancer and gives spirulina its special blue tint.
  • The Aztecs reputedly supplied spirulina to their warriors to increase strength and endurance and it is perhaps best known for its potent immune boosting properties.

Spirulina is low in calories and a complete source of protein. It has recently been linked to demonstrable weight loss.

  • Chlorella algae has a high chlorophyll content that acts as a cleansing agent for blood and tissues.
  • Chlorella is a powerful detoxification aid, because it binds to toxins in the system and then flushes them out through urine and feces. Heavy metals such as cadmium, uranium, mercury and even radioactive materialsbind to Chlorella.
  • Chlorella is extremely rich in nucleic acids, key factors for RNA and DNA that protect cells and raise energy levels.
  • Chlorella contains a very strong concentration of alpha, beta and gamma PPAR’s (Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptors), which are known to regulate our metabolism, strengthen our immune system and promote general all round good health.
  • Chlorella stimulates the growth of friendly aerobic bacteria which has a profound, beneficial effect on overall bowel health.

Chlorella is a green algae and has about ten times more chlorophyll than spirulina, making it an efficient detoxifier. It also has more antioxidants than spirulina. (Sources: EnergyBits, WiseGeekHealth, DetoxYourWorld)

It is pretty clear that both algae can be beneficial to our everyday diet.

When I first began taking EnergyBits, I was utterly flaberghasted by the results. But it wasn’t until I added RecoveryBits into the mix that I realized how the two work as a team! You see, the RecoveryBits (Chlorella algae) is a detoxifier by nature. So, it binds to all the bad things in your system which may halt or slow the processes that allow all the good things to work. If you take them at night before you go to bed, or directly after a workout before your post workout meal, then they can help your body to more readily absorb what it needs for recovery. If you are an athlete of any sort, this is crucial! You want to be able to perform them same, day after day, week after week, run after run. RecoveryBits gives you that ability when taken regularly.

RecoveryBits are also amazing at preventing illness! And isn’t this great, especially as our kids head back to school! As a mom of school age children, I don’t have to tell you that the first month is when they bring home the first of many viruses that arise during the school year. Nip it in the bud this year by supplementing their mornings or evenings with a serving of RecoveryBits! Here is just a sampling of mom’s testimonials about the wonders of RecoveryBits.

“As a mom of three energetic, curious children, I want to do everything I can to keep them healthy and active. As a part of their morning routine, they take a mixture of RECOVERYbits and ENERGYbits(in a 3:1 ratio). RECOVERYbits help to keep their immune systems healthy while ENERGYbits provide some additional clean energy to get them through their morning with enhanced mental clarity.”

“My girls are ages two and three and no matter where we go, their hands are on EVERYTHING. My son is my oldest, and is in 2nd grade this year. He has had noticeably fewer colds and illnesses than other children in his class. His grades are phenomenal and he is reading well above his grade level. Bits are a perfect addition to a healthy active lifestyle and give kids the energy they need when paired with a healthy diet. They’re one ingredient and I love that I don’t have to worry about sugars, food coloring, or scary added ingredients.”

“My kids (3 & 5) get a kick out of the green tongue they get after bits! My favorite way to serve them is in smoothies! What kid doesn’t want to drink green Frog Juice. We were much healthier last winter than we were in previous years. We’ve had a reduced number of colds and running noses, which has been so nice! Plus, they give ME energy to keep up with them!”

“My sons are eighteen months and four. My oldest brings home all the germs from preschool and shares them with his little brother. I’ve found the best way to keep my boys healthy is to give them RECOVERYbits to support their immune system. When we all started regularly eating RECOVERYbits, we experienced a lot less sickness. We are vegetarians so I also want to make sure my boys get all the nutrients they need, especially because they can be picky! My youngest loves to chew his ENERGYbits and RECOVERYbits. I’m so happy to be able to give my kids bits to keep them healthy!”

Personally, I find that my EnergyBits are that much more potent after an overnight round of RecoveryBits. It is as though you get way more bang for your buck.

And they are so darn easy to take. Sure, 30 tabs might seem like a lot to swallow at once, but you can do a few at a time. The great thing about the bits is that since they are 100% algae, with no fillers or other ingredients, they develop a slippery film as they moisten. Allowing them to sit in your mouth a moment will help with getting them into your system with just a small swig of water. This is why I love to fuel my races with them. A dixie cup at the hydration station is all you need!

And you kids will find them easy to swallow as well.

I don’t know about you, but I plan to keep the viruses and germs out of our home this season! We will all be #poweredbybits…RecoveryBits for healthier immune systems all around!

(Please understand that both Chlorella and Spirulina should be purchased from a reputable source. There is a danger of toxic contamination if either is grown in unclean water.)

I avoid the mall and other super busy places as much as possible and use old fashioned hand washing to try to keep sickness at bay. I would love to try the Recovery Bits since my daughter is now in kindergarten and she has already given me and her sister a cold.

  2. Kayla says:

I use various kinds of essential oils. We also take probiotics, cover our mouths when we cough/sneeze and I make sure to be very diligent about hand washing!

  3. Elle says:

I already use ENERGYbits but haven’t started RECOVERYbits yet. Would love to have a sample.

  4. Timothy Estrada says:

I usually try to have all of us eat healthy. We like to eat local raw honey to help with seasonal allergies. We use a lot of lemons, garlic, and things to that nature to help also.

  5. Dani says:

I tackle cold and flu prevention with a healthy diet and clean hands! I’m a stickler about hand washing and carry hand sanitizer in my purse for on the go!
