Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts Review – Coupon Code – #giveaway

How would I describe a Hemp Heart?

Hemp Hearts. And they are what they imply. They heart of the hemp seed. Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts are just the raw, nutritious, center of the hemp. It is loaded with heart healthy goodness and it is naturally low in carbohydrates, high in fiber, and packed with healthy fats as well. Talk about your heart healthy Omegas! Just one serving (30g or about 3 Tbls) provides 10 grams of Omegas 3 and 6, 3g of carbs, 3g of fiber, 10g of protein, and a good chunk of magnesium. (If you don’t know this already, magnesium is great for runners!)

No, hemp is not the same as marijuana. I know you are all thinking that. Hemp cannot be used as a drug like marijuana. In fact, if a hemp plant were to be grown alongside a marijuana plant, the hemp would render the marijuana sterile. The hemp seeds themselves are an excellent nutritional source that can provide quality fats and proteins. The hemp seed oil is utilized for it’s healing qualities in many salves and cosmetics but can also be used to create paint, varnishes, lubricants, and much more. It is a phenomenally versatile seed.

And you can eat them!

How would I describe a Hemp Heart? Well, to me, it is kind a cross between a sesame seed and a sunflower seed. But it has a nutty, and almost butter flavor all it’s own. They crunch, yet at the same time, they are rather soft, so the texture is guaranteed to please just about anyone.

From the Manitoba Harvest website:

At the ‘heart’ of all our hemp foods is the Hemp Heart (aka raw shelled hemp seed).

  • Great tasting – Hemp Hearts have a slightly nutty taste, similar to a sunflower seed or pine nut.
  • Easy to use – Simply sprinkle Hemp Hearts on salad, cereal & yogurt, add to smoothies and recipes, or eat them straight from the package!
  • Nutritious – per 30 gram serving, Hemp Hearts contain 10 grams of plant-based protein and 10 grams of Omegas.
  • Hemp Hearts have more protein and omegas and less carbs than the same serving of chia or flax.

I have to admit, they do taste great straight from the bag, but there is so much more you can do with them! You can sprinkle them on anything from salads to ice cream. You can also put them on top of home made muffins or bread for an extra punch of crunch. They are mighty delicious on scrambled eggs. And I particularly like them blended in a cup of bullet proof coffee! The flavor is so unique yet so familiar at the same time.

If you are a one-minute muffin fan, consider substituting hemp hearts for the ground flax. You’ll get a completely different muffin! Here is a great recipe to try.

Blend all ingredients together and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. You can use a NutriBullet to blend for a smoother pudding consistency or just stir to leave it crunchy. For a real treat, add a teaspoon of nut butter or a dollop of whipped cream! Or, eat it out of a Martini glass!

I’ve never used hemp based products before. This would be a great way to try them! I use chia seeds almost every day in my oatmeal! So good! And I like on Facebook and follow on Twitter 🙂

I do love Manitoba Hemp Hearts and have a bag in my fridge right now. I love them right out of the bag but often use them in my breakfast ‘bowls’ or sprinkled on yogurt, and on salads. I think they are a great way to get in the Omega 3’s.

I like their FB page and follow them on Twitter too.
