Happy Calm Focused – Product #Review

Brain food. Give it to me. All of it.

Feed me, Seymour!

I’m convinced that the key to a healthy, happy life is feeding your brain what it needs to control the rest of your body, inside and out. For me, it started with the LCHF (low carb/high fat) diet. Fat is great for the brain. After all, it is comprised mainly of fat. You brain needs fat to function. But that isn’t all that it needs.

It needs Amino Acids, and nutrients in just the right amounts to be the most effective. Once you have stabilized the brain, everything else takes care of itself.

Your Brain and HCF

Your Brain and HCF

I thought I was already there with the LCHF lifestyle and taking my BCAA’s on a regular basis. But a product appeared on my radar screen, thanks to the power of blogs and e-mail. The folks at HCF – Happy Calm Focused – and F&Q, contacted me directly and asked me to review their product. (What does F&Q stand for? The F part stands for F = Phenylalanine, pronounced: “D-L-FEN-L-AL-UH-NEEN”. The Q part stands for Q = Glutamine, pronounced: “L-GLOO-TUH-MEEN”. Here is an amazing fact sheet that explains it all.) Many of these requests flow through my inbox. But when one like this comes along, I get super excited. This is right up my alley! And since I already have experience with “feeding the brain”, I knew I had to try this.

I accepted the offer.

I’ve had positive results with Amino Acids. I seriously believe that I started to get really “ripped” once I started taking them regularly. They also helped with my focus during my workouts as well. But there is something totally different about HCF.

“The advantage HCF® Happy, Calm & Focused® has over other brain supplements is simple. Typical brain supplements and memory nutrients rely on high-dose “50-ingredients-in-one” glorified multi-vitamins or just herbs to artificially give your brain a lift. HCF supports feeding your brain’s own neurotransmitters with what it is supposed to have—F&Q amino acids. So you can stay at your best longer without fear of crashing. In other words, you can get the happiness, calmness, and focus you need to turn possibility into reality, whether you’re shooting for a championship or just trying to make it through your long work day.”

What is in HFC

What is in HFC

I began my trial on a Monday and followed the directions to a “T”. You need to take them first thing upon waking in the morning…with water…and 30 minutes prior to putting anything else in your belly. This includes coffee, other vitamins, breakfast, butter (ha ha), what have you. I actually set my Fitbit alarm to remind me when I can eat something and finish taking my vitamins. I wanted to be sure I was doing it right. I also started with HCF’s recommended dosage of 3 pills. I wasn’t too sure of that one because I’m around 115 pounds on a good day. But I am super active. And I can be sensitive to supplements in general. As it turns out, the dosage seemed perfect. And as early as Day 1, I experienced some really cool benefits.

The first, by far, was my eyesight! I know…sounds completely crazy, but since my prescription changed in October, I have been struggling with my new glasses. Some days, my vision seems fine. Other days, I feel like my glasses are just dirty or blurry. No matter how much I clean them, I have bad vision days. After just the first dose of HCF, I swear my vision cleared right up. It was drastic!

Day 2 on HCF i and after I’ve showered and dressed, I get started to dry my hair and catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. Call me crazy, but my eyes appear wider and brighter…almost like I’ve stumbled upon the the meaning of life. I can’t get over it. Because of it, I feel like it gives me a more youthful appearance, and I resist the urge to put any make up on because at this moment, I don’t feel I need it!

Day 3 on HCF and I’ve actually lost a pound. Looking back upon the last two days, I realize that I have done NO extraneous eating. I’ve just had my morning bulletproof coffee, my eggs at lunch, and have not been ravenous at dinner. Nor have I reached for the post dinner/pre bedtime snack. Have I not been hungry? Have I not noticed how much my appetite has dwindled? After e-mailing my contact at HCF, I learned that HCF doesn’t necessarily “curb” your appetite, rather, it allows your brain to recognize that you are, in fact, satiated and do not need to consume anymore food.

“Our product had two key amino acids DL-Phenylalanine (F) and L-Glutamine (Q).
(F) feeds the Hypothalamus which is the master controller of the entire hormonal system so it makes sense that you are seeing these results and others to come. The amino acids are balancing you, there is no suppressing of the appetite just balancing it to where is should be. Here is a link that explains it a little better.”

Dang! This stuff is the bomb!

Day 4 on HCF and a little setback. I just notice a hint of energy loss. Of course, this could be due to anything. But I think that like all new things, it takes a few days for your body to adapt. My gut tells me this will change the longer I stick with it. But, it was put to the test, as on the evening of Day 3, we had a slight crisis within our family and while some of us chose to deal with it one way, I realized I had the where with all to breathe, and let it go. This is new for me. It didn’t keep me up at night…it didn’t stress me out…it was just “there” and I allowed to stay “there” until it faded away late in on Day 4. I kept my wits and my sanity.

Day 5 on HCF puts me at Friday. Another little setback this morning as my workout was delayed by 2 hours thanks to a frozen pipe that knocked out our basement power. If I wait too long to start P90X, then I may as well just skip it. But, I powered through knowing it is a running rest day. A little indoor cycle work should do the trick. I’ll save my strength for tomorrow, as I hope to get a somewhat long run in prior to next Saturday’s half marathon!

My daughters and I take Kung Fu classes in our community and tonight was rehearsal for Kung Fu night on Saturday. I came home from that just exhausted! I was quite shocked. I couldn’t wait to crawl into bed even though my husband was determined to watch the season finale of Gold Rush. I made it half way through and had to beg for mercy. I do notice a little better sleep pattern developing, too.

Day 6 on HCF – Saturday and another early morning. I had an 8 am Yoga class and planned to pull out a long run. I went for 10 miles and did a nice easy pace. The weather was glorious, with temperatures in the upper 30s and sunshine! I did notice a slight jump in energy today.

We survived Kung Fu night, too! It was fun, and not nearly exhausting as the rehearsal. My husband treated us to Sushi for dinner.

Despite getting less sleep than previous nights, I feel like I slept deeper so I woke up a bit more refreshed than usual.

Day 7 on HCF and another week closer to my next half marathon. I actually slept in this morning thanks even though we pushed the clocks ahead. And I desperately needed it. After a 9:30 am Yoga class, I headed home for a run. Even warmer today with temperatures in the lower 40s! I squeeked out 6 miles or so, but I was pretty whooped and still had a long day ahead of my with food prep and some errands to run.

All in all, though, my first week on HCF was eye opening, to say the least!

I’m going to update you again next week on this powerful supplement because I think it is THAT good and you deserve to know how I respond through the entire trial. But by all means, if you would like to try it for yourself, here is a link through which you can buy it on Amazon.

And please, come back here and tell me what YOU thought about HCF!

Are there any supplements you take on a regular basis that you swear by? Which ones and why?
