Purely Inspired Nutrition – Protein Powder #Review

Protein powder. Yeah, it’s everywhere. Every company makes one. Everyone claims theirs is the best. Pea, rice, casein, vegan, even beef based! I’ve seen it all. And I’ve tried my share. To be perfectly honest, mixing one up in an 8 oz. glass of the liquid of my choice grosses me out. I love the idea of protein powders, but I don’t like the idea of drinking my dinner. If a meal is going to appeal to me at all I’d much rather nosh on something worthwhile.

There are just a handful out on the market today that I’d consider buying again in order to incorporate it into my lifestyle on a regular basis. One that I came upon quite recently is by Purely Inspired Nutrition. They make a line of dairy, gluten and soy free powders that are 100% plant based. A serving contains 6 grams of fiber, and more antioxidant vitamin C than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables. Their greens are a concentrated blend of broccoli and spinach. They contain Omega-3’s, digestive enzymes, vitamin B6 and B12, and chromium, just to mention a few choice vitamins and minerals. And, they are Stevia sweetened.

Plus, you can feel great about feeding them to the kids because they contain no caffeine, artificial sweeteners, or stimulants of any kind.

They are also easily accessible. You can purchase them at your local Sam’s Club, Walgreens, CVS, Meijer, Vitamin Shoppe, or Rite Aid, not to mention Amazon…well, Amazon is just pure awesomeness.

I love a challenge! So when Purely Inspired asked me to review their product, I explained to them my protein powder predicament, and they were more than happy to allow me to present to you some ways to use their protein powder other than mixing it in the 8 oz. liquid of your choice. Lucky them!

Purely Inspired Trio of Flavors

Purely Inspired Trio of Flavors

Purely Inspired comes in three flavors; Natural Vanilla, Chocolate and Very Berry. I was presented with the Natural Vanilla and the Chocolate flavors.

What I noticed immediately upon opening the Natural Vanilla was it’s obvious green tint. This reminded me of Sunwarrior’s Vanilla Warrior Blend. It tells you that, yeah, there are veggies in there!

It also has an amazing fresh aroma that doesn’t smell artificial or plastic, like some other protein powders I have encountered in the past. Of course, the Chocolate flavor doesn’t have as much of a green tint, since it contains cocoa. The brown color is stronger than the greens. But it is still has a fresh, vibrant appearance and aroma.

I couldn’t wait to start baking!

The first thing I did was to taste each powder straight. It is important when you bake with protein powders to determine how sweet they are. This will determine whether more sweetener needs to be incorporated into your recipe later on. Every one has their own interpretation of “sweet”. I try not to over sweeten anything, so I used the least amount that I could get away with. The nice thing about Purely Inspired is that their products are not overly sweetened as some protein powders are. You don’t get that overwhelming Stevia flavor or aftertaste. This is important to me!

And, certainly, baking with protein powders is an art. And sometimes, trial and error. But my first attempts at baking with Purely Inspired were amazingly successful. Another bonus!

The recipe I’ll share with you today is hugely popular with the family. It doesn’t require any baking, and can be whipped together faster than you can say “Lickety Split”. Refrigerate them for a few minutes, and you’ll be eating them for dessert tonight!

They are horribly addictive, but still healthy. And one is so rich, you won’t need to reach for another. You will, however, have to hide them from the husband!

Recipe Notes

Keep these refrigerated or freeze them, otherwise they will just melt at room temperature. They should last at least a week, but much longer if frozen.

And please stay tuned because next week I’ll have a recipe for a delectable lemon pound cake using Purely Inspired Natural Vanilla Protein Powder!

My only caveat…I did not get to try the Very Berry. My mind is already twirling with ideas for that flavor!
