Get Mom What She Really Wants – #RunMollyRun Review and #Giveaway

Over the years, Mother’s Day has kind of become more of an obligation than a celebration.

There used to be a time when being a mom was revered. You were considered a hero, a God, the person which no one in the immediate family could ever survive without! And then it all changed. Exactly when, I’m not sure. But it wasn’t sudden. Rather it was more of a dwindling, a degradation, or maybe a deterioration of the hierarchy.

I mean, think about it. Before your children were even old enough to realize what Mother’s Day was all about, your husband would get you the sweetest gifts, or floral bouquets. He’d say they were for you, for being a mother to the offspring that you conceived together, with undeniable love for one another. Then, as the children became toddlers, he would take them shopping to say Target or Walmart, and ask them to choose gifts that their mom might like. So on Mother’s Day, you’d unwrap bags of M&M’s or TicTacs, little rose colored soaps, pink nail polish, or photo frames shaped like circus animals.

As they got older, the gifts got a bit more personal. There would be boxes of chocolate, or a funny graphic tee-shirt, or a coffee mug that said “World’s Greatest Mom”.

But in middle school, the shopping trip with dad changed. Suddenly, I was opening pots, pans, wooden spoons and various kitchen gadgets. In fact, I have gotten so many over the the last 3 years, I never have to shop for them again.

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful. Just being a mom is a gift in itself…but wouldn’t it be nice if someone asked,

“Hey honey (mom), what would you really like for Mother’s Day this year?”

It seems to me that a mom could at least drop a hint about something she might want and perhaps relish the thought that she might actually receive it.

Just what I've always wanted!

Just what I’ve always wanted!

Then again, maybe not.

Being a mom AND a runner, I can safely say that I may have found the perfect answer to the “What can I get my wife (or mother) for Mother’s Day” dilemma. Not only would she (me) be tickled by the fact that she actually received something she can lovingly display and boast about to her friends, but that it holds personal meaning since she (I) have also been acknowledged as being a mother runner.

  2. So fun! Super cute jewelry. Can you believe I’ve never gotten a gift on Mother’s Day? In fact, the last few have been spent alone because my husband was flying. Occupational hazard I guess!

  3. Oh gosh. I lament over mother’s day every year! It’s so hard for me to find my mother something I feel she will like! 😉 Those necklaces are great! Following on facebook!
