Nutri Lifescience Bergamonte #Review

Yeah, I’m a low carber. This means that the majority of my calories comes from fat. Next in line comes protein, and finally carbohydrates. Why do I eat this way? Well, because I have a bit of trouble with insulin sensitivity. Despite the fact that I’m in good health, exercise regularly, and eat a whole food diet, I still have blood sugar issues.

Did you know that Insulin is a hormone? It is synthesized and released from the pancreas. It helps cells to absorb glucose, better known as sugar, from the blood, so that the body can use it for energy.

How does the sugar get in your blood? Your body digests foods that contain carbohydrates (sugar) and releases them as glucose into your blood. Insulin, which is automatically released when you eat, helps the body maintain a healthy level of circulating glucose by allowing the glucose from the blood to go into the cells. Think of insulin as the head count guy at your favorite amusement park. He can only allow 24 riders each time, so he allows just 24 people into the corral. Insulin just allows the correct amount of sugar into the cells. Removing that amount of sugar from the blood into the cells will lower blood sugar levels (the amount of sugar in the blood), and the cells, in turn, have what they need to use as energy. Everyone is happy.

With insulin resistance, your pancreas produces insulin, but your cells aren’t using it as well as they should. When insulin is not working efficiently, or if the head count guy is not allowing enough riders into the corral, a buildup of sugar occurs in your blood. If your blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but aren’t high enough to be considered Type 2 diabetes, you are said to have high blood sugar or prediabetes.

My blood sugar used to be borderline high, despite the fact that I workout regularly and have never been overweight, with the exception of pregnancy (with twins). Taking that into consideration, as well as a few other factors, I voluntarily removed the sugar and carbohydrates from my diet. My blood sugar has come down, however, you’d think it would be lower than it is. So what is happening?

My body is taking any extra protein that I ingest and converting it into glucose. So, not only to I have to be aware of my carbohydrate intake, I can’t just slack off and eat a ton of protein. This is why the majority of my calories come from fat.

So, now you might be asking why on earth I’m telling you all this.

The product that caught my attention was Bergamonte. Bergamonte contains an extract of the citrus Bergamia Risso plant which grows almost exclusively in the narrow, coastal Calabria region of Southern Italy. The juice and albedo of bergamot has a unique profile of flavonoid and glycosides, such as neoeriocitrin, neohesperidin, naringin, rutin, neodesmin, rhoifolin and poncirin. Naringin have been shown to be beneficial in animal models of atherosclerosis, while neoeriocitrin and rutin have been found to exhibit a strong capacity to prevent LDL from oxidation. Importantly, bergamot juice is rich in brutieridine and melitidine with an ability to inhibit HMG-CoA reductase.

I agreed to give this product a try and see what actually happens to my blood glucose levels. I do own a blood glucose monitor of my own and plan to put it to the test. My objective is to test my blood sugar regularly in the morning, after an 8-hour fasting period, and compare the levels after a week, two weeks, and three weeks on the product. I’m excited about this, and I will bring you the results as they occur!

According to manufacturers instructions, I am to take 1-2 capsules on an empty stomach preceding lunch and dinner.
