The sky opened up late in the afternoon and rain fell from the heavens for the first time in weeks. And let me tell you that it rained cats and dogs! I began to wonder if it would end in time to get the Torchlight 5K off and running at 7:30 pm that evening. The last minute decision was that my husband would accompany me. This would mean I would not need to use the free metro transit passes that had been generously offered to us by MVTA and the Torchlight 5K. But it did mean we’d have to be creative about getting me to the start line and him to the finish line on the north side of the Stone Arch Bridge. Believe you me, it wasn’t easy.

It’s true. I’ve been reinventing myself with my evening run. Despite the rather delightful summer we have been having in Minnesota, the mornings can be despicably hot. Well, actually, I can’t really say that, because I’ve been snoozing in quite a bit this summer. Sleep has recently become my friend again, the best of which occurs just before my alarm rings at 6 am, then again at 7 am. And sometimes even 8 am.

If you aren’t from a northern tier state, then I guess you probably didn’t realize that in the dead of the summer, the sun hangs around much longer than it does in a state closer to the equator. Anytime we get a visitor to our home in June or July, it is the sunrise and sunset times that pretty much throw them for a loop. From approximately 4:30 am to 9:45 pm, it is light enough outside to see the hand in front of your face. That is a lot of daylight hours! So, not only is Minnesota the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”, but it is also the “Land of the Never-ending Day”, at least for a few weeks.

The Fourth Time is NOT the Charm. #GetLuckyMN 2017 Race Recap

My husband woke me up one minute before my fitbit alarm was scheduled to wake me.

Huh?

Odd. I guess that means he’s coming with me. I wasn’t quite sure what the story was as it wasn’t discussed in full the night before. My girls had a busy day ahead of them, and if my husband were going to come along, we would have to drop them off at their first stop of the day an hour ahead of schedule. But they assured us it would be OK and that the school would be open. Since that was the case, we all loaded up at 7am and were on our way.

Was I Ready to Get Lucky?

These days, I’m not as anal about running events as I used to be. In fact, it is safe to say the thrill is gone. More than likely it is because I haven’t been thrilled about my running.
