The sky opened up late in the afternoon and rain fell from the heavens for the first time in weeks. And let me tell you that it rained cats and dogs! I began to wonder if it would end in time to get the Torchlight 5K off and running at 7:30 pm that evening. The last minute decision was that my husband would accompany me. This would mean I would not need to use the free metro transit passes that had been generously offered to us by MVTA and the Torchlight 5K. But it did mean we’d have to be creative about getting me to the start line and him to the finish line on the north side of the Stone Arch Bridge. Believe you me, it wasn’t easy.

To 5K Or Not To 5K

“Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it.”
-Oprah Winfrey

This is true on so many levels, but it doesn’t necessarily pertain just to running.

Trying to get Charmed Running off the ground has almost been as stressful as my recent running performances. I’m not sure which has been more difficult. One is clearly more mental, and the other more physical.

Lola’s Half Marathon 2017 Race Recap – Part 2

Bling from Lola's Half Marathon 2017

This is Part 2. Part 1 is here!

I remember this stretch of road from last year, but I don’t remember it being so early in the run. This scared me a little because I was thinking, “Damn, I’ve got a long way to go!”

It was here we began to meet up with the 10-milers. They had a 10 minute head start on us, so this seemed like the place to run into them, around miles 5 through 6. This was a larger highway, so there wasn’t much fan support. I remember last year having to put some body glide on my legs as they were really chaffing. I must have done a good job putting it on this year, because so far so good, even though it was 10-15° warmer than 2016.

Lola’s Half Marathon 2017 Race Recap – Part 1

I have but two words to describe my performance in Lola’s Half Marathon 2017.

Gawd! Nothing came together for this event, except perhaps for the fact that my husband decided to come with me. That meant I didn’t have to get behind the wheel, which was a good thing. I could have been arrested for any number of traffic violations since I was basically under the influence of hell.

Fargo Marathon Race Recap – Part 3

This run is dedicated to Steve Roxberg, our neighbor and dear friend, who passed away May 21 following a sudden illness. He is now free to “shoot big deer and catch big fish” everyday in eternity.

Part 2 is here!

I was very disappointed that my husband made the ultimate decision not to stay in Fargo another night. I was looking forward to walking around town, and revisiting the great restaurant we had been to the previous evening, plus a few others we had passed up, not to mention having my post race Manhattan.
