Why I’m #bulletproof
A while back I posted my journey to becoming Low Carb/High Fat and the benefits it has brought forth. In one of my recipes, Bulletproof Coffee, I discussed how the founder of the mixture, Dave Asprey, began his own journey and as an entrepreneur, developed his own brand of coffee as well. I had suggested that you could just substitute any coffee in the mix, but I have since recanted my original suggestion.

FACLW – How to #Bulletproof Your Coffee

It’s all the rage, especially in Silicon Valley! Have you heard? They are fluffing up their daily dose of caffeine with heart healthy fats. Gone are the days of the regular New York deli coffee. (I worked at a deli on Long Island in my youth. A regular coffee was a coffee with 2 splashes of cream and 2 heaping spoons of sugar. We sold so many, we’d pre-fill the cups with the add ons and stack them for faster service.)

The benefits of Bulletproof Coffee are eye-opening. Literally! It can force the metabolism into Ketosis. This means, it allows the body to burn fat effectively, thereby triggering weight loss. The added fat in the java curbs cravings for carbs and satiates the appetite. And if that weren’t enough, it boosts brain function, making you much more mentally alert than just a simple cuppa black coffee.

Monster Dash Half Marathon – Race Recap

I did it! My third half marathon in less than 60 days! And that isn’t even nearly as amazing as it sounds because not only did I get that third half marathon done, but I PR’d it, as well!

No one is more surprised than I am at this feat. I was physically and mentally exhausted from the running I had already done this month. Not to mention I had some kind of weird thing in my right calf that started up after I tripped over one of my dogs eariler this week. I thought I was doomed to walking this half marathon after I attempted to run on it Thursday, and rather unsuccessfully at that. After seeking out some advice on my Facebook page, and discovering a calf stretch Friday morning during P90X, I was able to thwart the possible calamity.

The Belle Plaine Scenic Byway Half Marathon – Race Recap

Some might call me a wee bit crazy to run this monster just a week after my fastest marathon ever. And that might be true. But I did have a legitimate reason for running it. Well, kind of legitimate.

One of my goals for 2104 was to become a Half Fanatic. I had planned to do a streak of half marathons in May and June. But the ol’ stress reaction kept that from happening.

Instead, I took a closer look at the race calendar at year’s end and realized I could still make it happen. I had already run the Women Rock Half Marathon at the end of August plus already had the Monster Dash scheduled for late October.  But in order to qualify, I’d have to run one more. There was one on the calendar that I have done for the past 2 years and I would love to do again because it is so grueling. And as you all know already, I’m a glutton for punishment. In order to become a half fanatic, I’d have to run this sucker a week after my marathon.
